#bekind2day
kind·ness (noun) the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
Do you ever wonder how your day to day actions impact those around you? Our words and actions have a lasting impact on people long after we have forgotten them. We often hear about random acts of kindness, but what about daily acts of kindness? What would happen if each one of us decided to do one small act of kindness every single day? It could be as simple as opening the door for someone or giving up your seat on the bus. Small acts of kindness are like ripples in a pond, ever growing and changing. The most amazing thing is that by uplifting others, we actually uplift ourselves.
Why Kindness Matters
Research has shown that being kind to others is good for your mental and physical health. People who are kind to others are happier and less depressed. In addition to making you happier, being kind gives us the opportunity to tell someone else that they matter. When you are kind to someone, they are happier and, in turn, they share that happiness with others. Kindness matters because people matter, and at the end of the day, being kind just feels good.
It’s Easy to be Kind
One of the easiest ways to be kind is to say please and thank you! Manners are often taken for granted these days, especially with family members. Thanking someone for making your day better, makes their day better too. So please give it a try :) Oh, and thank you too!!
We all hear about Random Acts of Kindness, but how many of us actually do them? There are easy, free things we can do that don’t cost us anything but our time. How easy would it be to put your neighbors trash can away on trash day or offer to take a friends baby for a walk? Small, simple things can have a huge impact in someone’s life.
Volunteering is another way to show kindness. Every where you look there are opportunities to volunteer. Find something that your interested in and see what opportunities are available. You’ll be amazed at how much satisfaction you feel when you spend your time helping others.
Have a skill you’re good at? Put it to use to spread some kindness. Do you like to knit? Knit some baby booties for your local hospital. Do you enjoy photography? Offer to take some pictures for your friends and neighbors. No matter what your skill or hobby is, you can put it to use to brighten someones day.
Something we often forget is to be kind to ourselves. Don’t forget to pamper yourself. Get some rest, read a book, enjoy that extra cup of coffee. Do something you love, just for you. Being kind to others is important, but being kind to yourself is important too.
